COURSE OUTLINE & SYLLABUS
Course schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Central Time, U.S. and Canada). There will be a one-hour break for lunch and several short breaks throughout the day.
In this one-day course for beginners, students will learn the basics of image collection through the microscope via discussions and demonstrations.
This course covers the most important aspects of digital imaging, including camera and microscope hardware, system setup, user settings, collection of quality images, and introductory image processing.
There is no prerequisite for this course.

- Basic camera hardware: types of cameras, couplers, and accessories
- User settings: shutter speed, aperture, white balance, exposure, and contrast
- Basic microscopy: parts of the microscope, proper setup, and attaching a camera
- Attributes of quality images: color temperature, lighting, resolution, and artifacts
- Image processing: understanding the basics to improve image quality
